Tasmanian printer at+m integrated marketing first in state to achieve new international environmental management system (EMS) certification.

The privately owned at+m integrated marketing has been certified under the Australian SAI Global Assurance Program to ISO 9001:2000 since August 1995 but will soon move into a new category of certification when the Minister for Tourism, Arts & the Environment, The Hon Paula Wriedt MHA presented the company with their ISO 14001 Certification. ISO 14001 is recognised by the distinctive green ticks logo, similar to the red ticks awarded for quality assurance certification.

David Peck, managing director of the company says, "at+m integrated marketing is now recognised internationally as one of the worlds best managed and environmentally responsible printing companies. More importantly, the profile that the red and green ticks offer our business, also gives our clients confidence in our quality assurance and EMS.

"The ISO standard, which gives us access to the green five-ticks for our environmental practices and the red five-ticks for our quality management procedures, simply means that our certification achievements will be instantly recognised," he said.

SAI Global specialises in the independent assessment of management systems and products with variations of the mark being applied to different areas of certification. These include quality assurance, environment management systems, occupational health and safety, and product certification.

Peck says, "SAI Global has done an excellent job in promoting the credibility of its quality assurance branding. We are honoured that they recognise the achievements of our company and granted at+m integrated marketing permission to use the insignia."

Andrew Thornhill from SAI Global said that he was impressed with the overall commitment from both staff and management to the ISO certification process.

"The commitment shown by at+m integrated marketing to attend to the pre-audit requirements, as well as meeting the stringent and robust requirements of the certification process is to be commended," Thornhill said.

"at+m integrated marketing demonstrated excellent cultural improvement and advancement, particularly in the area of chemical management and waste minimisation. at+m integrated marketing should also be proud of the way the production staff support the ISO 14001 implementation, as this is often the most difficult part of the certification process," Mr Thornhill added.

I flew out of Madrid ten days before that disastrous Spanair takeoff late in August when more than 150 people died. From a newspaper perspective, I saw few publications bigger than tabloid format, and many in a smaller format (generally about 260mm by 185mm)
