While the drupa headlines focused on digital inkjet print the bulk of print at the show was coming from highly specified offset presses, highlighting its continued pre-eminent role in print, reports Wayne Robinson
Japanese press manufacturer Komori is set to build what it claims will be the world’s largest press-making factory. The $1.5bn investment will focus around the expansion of the company’s Tsukuba Plant.
Japanese printing machinery manufacturer Komori has introduced its latest press at drupa, which the company claims includes a host of up-graded features, designed to improve print quality and turnover times. The Lithrone SX40 has a new maximum running speed of 18,000sph, as well as a higher speed, fully automatic plate change, with non stop plate removal.
The presses remain the key attraction at drupa and in 2008 printers are not going to be disappointed by the range of developments on show, says Gareth Ward.
One of Christchurch’s oldest printers, The Caxton Press rolled out the green carpet for the launch of its latest press, the new five-colour Komori Lithrone with its additional unit for an optional protective aqueous coating.
