History
Currie & Southward Printers Engineers was established in 1949 to deliver engineering maintenance services to Melbourne printers. In 1955, the late William Currie took sole control of the company and under his direction, it flourished to become the strong and respected firm, Currie & Company.
Today, Currie & Company continues as a fully Australian owned and operated company. Under the management of David Currie, the Company has maintained its focus on delivering technical service and support of the highest possible standard, while also distributing a range of quality equipment and machinery to the Australian printing industry.
Currie & Company has a long tradition in technical training and development, supporting an extensive apprenticeship and traineeship program. Management ensures staff are kept up to date with the latest developments in technology by arranging regular visits to overseas manufacturers for intensive training programs.
The Australian printing industry benefits from the contribution of Currie & Company staff and resources through the Company’s affiliation with trade shows, professional associations and industry organisations. The Company also supports several printing colleges around Australia with installations of state of the art equipment and machinery for use by students.
The Company boasts an impressive range of products spanning the full operation of today’s modern printshops. Machinery sourced from Japan, Europe and North America, offers Australian printers the latest technology available. The long term relationships with several manufacturers, including Shinohara Fuji and Horizon, go back to the early days of Currie & Company, and form the backbone of the Company’s success and reputation in the Australian marketplace.

The Company’s head office is located in Hawthorn, Victoria with branches in New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and Australian Capital Territory. We have Agency agreements with distributors who are active in the Northern Territory and Tasmania. Staff include administration, sales and technical experts who pride themselves on their commitment to delivering quality service.

- Transport division & electrical divisions in operation
1970 - Used machinery sales division commenced operation
1975 - New machinery sales division commenced in partnership with I.P.E.S. in Sydney
1977 - New machinery sales commenced in Melbourne
1980 - Dissolved partnersip with I.P.E.S.
- New machinery sales divisions operate as Currie & Company
- Opened Adelaide Branch Office
- Opened Sydney Branch Office
1983 - Established agent in Perth
1988 - Opened Brisbane Branch Office
1989 - Established agent in Tasmania
- Moved to new purpose-built premises in Hawthorn
1991 - Closed Adelaide Branch Office and established agent
1995 - Established partnership role with Fuji Xerox
1996 - Purchased 25% shareholding in A.M. International (Australia)
- Appointed AMI as agents in South Australia, Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory
1999 - Currie celebrate 50 years in business
2000 - Appointed the Australian distributor for ECRM Imaging Products
2000 - Became the majority shareholder in AM International
2001 - HP Indigo appointed Currie and Co as their Australian distributor for digital printing press
2002 - AM International (New Zealand) appointed as a distributor for Currie and Company
