Partial production has begun at the new high-end US$18.8m pharma packaging unit of Radha Madhav Corp Ltd (RMCL) in Daman, India.
The unit has a 22,000 tonne capacity and is expected to be in full production by September of this year according to sources at the company.
Its products will be used in the manufacture of bulk drug packaging, solid doses, liquid syrup, ointment and medicinal hardware.
RMCL is understood to be setting up a further pharma packaging unit in Uttarakhand with a value of US$25.2m.
In expansion mode, RMCL has acquired and consolidated the businesses of three firms, Metro Poly Prints, Radha Madhav Industries and Mayura Industries.
It plans further increases in capacity in the manufacturing of three-layered blown films, printing of films, printing mono cartons and cast films. New products such as five-layered films with nylon and EVOH, high-end flexo printed materials, laminated pouches and rolls and coated materials are also on the drawing board.
The group attributes its growth and success in the market to its technological edge and commitment to extensive research and development.
RMCL activities are divided into Primary Packaging through its Flexible and Folded Carton divisions and secondary packaging including liners, specialty thermoformable films, cartons and various profiles for a wide variety of applications.
With in house manufacturing of barrier cast and blown films, metallisation arrangements, lamination, gravure coating, extrusion coating and printing facilities, RMCL manufactures surface printed barrier films, metallised films, laminates, wrappers, overwrap films and various lamination films. It also manufactures high quality multicoloured printed mono cartons.
RMCL also commands a leadership position in secondary packaging with a product portfolio of stretch cast films, BOPP tapes, masking film, soft blister films, commodity liners of various materials like PE, PVC and PP.
Mayura Industries has been catering to he converting industry and is involved in the manufacture of barrier multilayer blown films, multilayered blown films used in packing liquids, food and for lamination with other substrates such as polyester and BOPP. The company has recently invested in German and Swiss technologies for multicolour printing on mono cartons.
Meanwhile, Metro Polyprints manufactures cast films used as barrier film, or printing films. Stretch films, films for soft blistering and other over wrap films are also produced by the firm. Metro also produces polypropylene bags and liners.
Radha Madhav Industries is involved in the manufacture of paper cores, cones, and tubes for POY, DTY and textile, multicolour printed stationery and polypropylene bags.
ISO 9001:2000-certified RMCL says it has a client base of over 400 customers in India and abroad, among them Reliance Industries, Hindustan Lever, Crompton Greves, Hindustan Petroleum, State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Birla White Cement, Heinz India, Cello Group, SKF Bearings, Mahananda Dairy, Coca Cola, Micro inks and Rupa Garments.
