Operational sets up in Australia

The Operational Group, specialists in energy efficiency and process optimisation, has announced plans to open an office in Melbourne, Australia in October. The group currently operates in the UK, France, Spain and the Netherlands, and the new office will service Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.

Operational offers specialist engineering services to a wide range of customers with a particular focus on the printing and flexible packaging industries. The company’s main area of expertise is process optimisation. They identify problems in ducting and drying systems and suggest modifications and adaptations that can be made to make the process more energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

Operational’s engineers believe that no one process is the same. They investigate and assess each case individually to create a bespoke solution that will increase process speed, reduce retained solvents, improve print quality and reduce energy consumption by up to 80 per cent.

Operations director Andrew Maxwell will head the new division bringing 20 years experience in the packaging industry with him. Maxwell leaves his position as divisional technical manager with Amcor to join Operational and establish the company’s Australian office.

“I saw the kind of results Operational achieve when they carried out site surveys on a range of presses,” says Maxwell. “The results clearly demonstrated very poor drying performance which directly related to high material waste and poor press efficiency. Once the required work is completed I expect significant improvements in setup waste, press speed and overall energy usage. Our solutions can increase output and turnover within months of implementation. I’m delighted to be part of such an innovative and exciting company.”

Maxwell has vast experience in all facets of gravure and flexo printing from the image design process through prepress for flexible packaging, ink room and colour management and ‘best practice’ press performance.
