awards  Packaging Council of New Zealand  competitions

The Packaging Council of New Zealand has put out the call for entries to demonstrate excellence in minimising the environmental impact of packaging and the packed product.

Closing date for entries is the May 29 and the 2009 Awards for Excellence for Environmentally Acceptable Packaging gala dinner will take place at the Hilton hotel in Auckland on September 4.

The council says that factors involved in selecting award winners include achieving material or energy reductions; optimising the opportunity for materials recovery and developing sustainable markets for recovered material; effective utilisation of recycled and recovered materials; representing packaging systems which minimise environmental impact; education programmes which motivate, explain and solicit positive response from the public for materials recovery; and key messages on products, or through promotion, or media coverage which encourage the consumer to think about issues of disposal prior to purchase.

An independent panel of judges and technical advisors will consider entries with the nominated criteria.
