Spicers Paper has put up 16 designer bags for auction online with Trade Me to help raise money for a World Wildlife Fund-New Zealand campaign to protect endangered dolphins.
A long-time supporter of World Wildlife Fund-New Zealand through initiatives such as the 9lives Fund, Spicers Paper commissioned accessory design group WAS to make the one-of-a-kind bags out of recycled billboard skins.
The original billboards were part of World Wildlife Fund-New Zealand’s ongoing campaign to protect two of the world’s rarest marine dolphins: New Zealand’s Hector’s and Maui’s dolphins. On the verge of extinction, Maui’s dolphins have an estimated population of only 111. Fishing practices such as set netting and trawling continue to threaten the survival of these sea mammals.
Spicers will auction the 16 handmade WAS originals over several weeks from, and will donate all of the money raised to World Wildlife Fund-New Zealand’s Stop their Extinction campaign.
Anyone wanting to place a bid should visit www.trademe.co.nz, and enter Spicers Paper in the search box to find the listings.
