Sentra celebrates family-style operation

When Sentra Printing held a farewell function recently, it gave the Auckland company a chance to celebrate its family-based business with a big party at its Eden Terrace printing plant.

Neville Holden, print assistant, has worked at Sentra Printing for 20 years. He made the decision to retire and move to Northland, to be closer to his wife’s family. The company honoured its first retiree with a decent send off.

Chris Smith, managing director of Sentra Printing, a supreme finalist in this year’s Pride In Print awards, says, “We had about 50 guests and it was typically a family affair with not only Neville’s family, but also past and present employees.”

Kath Smith, the company’s oldest former employee and mother of its managing director, at 84 years, has now properly retired but she has helped out on a part time basis for many years. Chris Smith says, “In the early days, she used to gather a team together in her home for urgent hand finishing work.”

With many long serving employees, Sentra boasts a settled work environment. Smith adds, “We are a family oriented company with a close knit team that works well together. So it was great to have the opportunity to celebrate Neville’s time at the company the way we did.”
