West-Auckland based laminating & liquid coating specialist Lamatex is positioning itself for growth with the installation of the latest model Cellcoat 1200E Roller Coater with UV and water-based coatings to cater to the growing XL105 Heidelberg press market.

Director John Sprague who established the print finishing company six years ago says the new presses are establishing a separate market altogether that Lamatex was now able to take advantage of.
The new Cellcoat 1200E imported from the UK was installed just three weeks before Christmas and has been busy ever since.

He says it takes sheet sizes up to 787mm x 1092mm with a minimum size of 320mm x 450mm and runs at 8000 sheets per hour on SRA2 with UV roller coating and 4000 sheets ph in water-based varnish.

"We got the new machine to satisfy the demands of some of our existing clients and it puts us in a very good position because we are now able to offer 100 per cent coverage UV coatings, water-based coatings and spot UV. We can do two sided coating with consultation but the bulk of the work is likely to be display cartons, magazine/book covers, packaging cartons, DVD and CD covers with a range of aqueous food grade coatings ideal for food packaging including lids containers & cartons for frozen foods which the machine has been designed specifically to handle," he says.

John says it is an advantage being a smaller family-owned company along with working shareholder Jeremy Sutton, both of whom worked for many years with AllKotes before it merged with Fintech.

"It means our clients are dealing with the owners and client contact is important in today's business environment."
