Epson releases desktop proofing printer

Epson  proofing  printing - inkjet
Epson has released the Stylus Pro 3800, an innovative desktop prographics printer which can be used for colour accurate proofs for design studios and printing companies. The desktop device has many of the features available on Epson’s range of large format prographics printers at a price that small businesses can afford, the company claims.

It comes with nine individual high capacity 80ml UltraChrome K3 ink cartridges including matte black and photo black. UltraChrome K3 resin coated pigment ink has a broader colour gamut than silver halide prints and has a colour range much wider than most photographers would need to use.

The Stylus Pro 3800 can print on Premium Glossy Photo Paper, Premium Semigloss Photo Paper, Enhanced Matte Paper, Velvet Fine Art Paper, UltraSmooth Fine Art Paper, and Premium Luster Photo Paper.

It uses Epson’s patented 1 inch wide MicroPiezo printhead and prints at up to 2880 x 1440 dots per inch, producing a high quality image that Epson claims will last up to 75 years in colour depending on media type.

Other features include the ability to automatically switch between matte black and photo black ink according to the paper selected and three paper feeding paths for
manual and automatic feeding which handles cut paper up to A2 size.

The ICC profiling on the Stylus Pro 3800 has also been improved to give more colour saturation giving greater definition of colour gradation between
midtones and shadows.
