The World Waterless Printing Conference has been scheduled for May 12 at the drupa Conference Centre. The conference is the first occasion on which the Waterless Printing Association has united with the Japanese Waterless Printing Association and the European Waterless Printing Association to plan a major event.
"The World Waterless Printing Conference has been organised to call attention to the proven productivity and environmental benefits of waterless printing to the world’s print professionals and print buyers", says Norm Fizell, a local Australian board member of the Waterless Printing Association.
According to Fizell, the volume of waterless offset printing in Japan has increased by more than 15 per cent over the past 12 months, and there is increasing interest in waterless among Australian printers and print buyers.
The global conference will focus on efforts to secure Best Available Techniques (BAT) recognition for waterless printing. Oekopol GmbH, consulting with the European Commission on identifying best available techniques for environmental protection and natural resource conservation, is scheduled to orient the group on the issues and discuss the impact of printing industry activities on environmental regulations.
In connection with this effort within the printing industry, waterless offset will take advantage of its total elimination of water and its associated wastes.
Conference participants can also expect to learn about the latest developments in waterless printing technologies from vendors such as KBA, Presstek, Sun Chemical, technotrans and Toray. Organisers believe that this technology will help propel waterless printing to new high standards in productivity and environmental compliance.
The latest devlopments in water-washable inks, UV-cured waterless inks, waterless plates and printing presses will be thoroughly examined while concentrating on the fields of sheetfed, newspapr and heatset offset printing.
European and Japanese printers who excel in their mastery of the waterless process in terms of productivity and profits will share their successes. They include Bunseikaku Company Ltd of Tokyo. Japan with 20 years of waterless experience and DZS Printing Company of Essen, Germany.
Rod Hayes, technical editor of the UK’s Printing World magazine will present "The Groundswell of Change".
