Production boost at First in Print

business planning
In the market for a press which could print both sides, Auckland-based First in Print accepted an invitation from Heidelberg to participate in a live demonstration of the Speedmaster 102-8 colour with perfector function (SM102-8-P). "After seeing the press in action we were so impressed we had to add the Speedmaster to our operation," says Gary Furness, Director, First in Print. "We chose a reconditioned SM102-8-P because it was the best solution for our business needs."

First in Print has serviced the commercial market for 11 years. The company specialises in magazines and annual report production, with customers throughout New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands.

The company installed its first Heidelberg equipment in 2002 and hasn’t looked back. The operation now features a reconditioned eight-page, 5 colour Heidelberg Web-8 Press (5 over 5), which was installed at the same time as the SM102-8-P, as well as a ST300 Saddlesticher and Stahlfolder Proline 78.

"The production increases following the installation of the SM102-8-P and the Web Press have been so great that it’s almost too hard to measure."

"We have a newfound level of flexibility to run a wider variety of work as we can interchange between the SM102-8-P and the webpress depending on individual job requirements. This enables us to streamline production leading to greater profitability."

However Furness reserves his highest praise for the training support First in Print received from Heidelberg. "Heidelberg really went out of their way to ensure that our operators were completely confident in operating the SM102-8-P and the Web Press. In fact everything went so smoothly that we were running jobs virtually from day one!"

"We could not be happier with the impact the presses have had on our production. Our customers are embracing the new technology and our new production capacity to such a level that we are looking at expanding our premises," he concludes.
