New line of business

workflow  printing - digital
Cosnor Press has bought a second piece of digital equipment in the past four months, opening up a new line of business in the process. The Panmure-based printer has just purchased a Xante CL30 colour laser printer from Netropolitan, which Frank Palmer of Cosnor describes as "an awesome machine."

It follows the purchase of a Xante platemaker 3 low-end RIP machine, four months ago, which means the printer can now output all their own film as well - at a huge saving for customers.

At 30 pages per minute for full colour prints, the digital printer has enabled Cosnor to offer short-run jobs of up to 300 prints of anything from brochures, flyers, and leaflets to stationery and business cards. The machine takes up to A3 size.

Frank says that word has got around that the company now offers digital and it has brought in a whole new set of customers and an increased work load for the new printer.

"There is a real demand for digital printing especially for short runs and this machine produces real quality work. We were out-sourcing our digital work before."

He digital is popular because it enables people to change the design on their cards, brochures or stationery more often to target specific markets.

The Xante CL30 is the model up from the previous model, the Xante ColourLaser 21. Both have been voted editor’s choice for A3 graphics in Macworld magazine.

Macworld says they are ideal for graphics users because they are fast and come with colour profile creation software. It says the CL30 applies the same graphics features as the previous model to the latest LED print engine "with great results."

The CL30 features a resolution of 1200 dpi and prints up to 30 pages a minute in a single pass action. The machine automatically re-calibrates its settings after every 500 prints to maintain its high quality.

The digital colour printing uses four in-line digital printheads and image drums to speed the page through, laying down cyan, magenta, yellow and black toner in the one pass.

Proof and print allows printing of a single copy of a document for checking before printing multiple copies of the same document.

It also gives media flexibility, allowing for oversize printing up to 327mm x 1220 mm and it can print on ordinary bond paper or speciality stocks including coated, card transparencies and laser quality labels.
