HP has outlined its strategy to reinforce its position in the large-format digital printing segment with an expanded portfolio targeting the growing indoor and outdoor signage market in Asia Pacific and Japan.

VS Hariharan, vice president of Graphic Solutions Business HP Imaging and Printing Group Asia Pacific and Japan, said, “HP is dedicated to providing the broadest portfolio of large-format digital printing technology and end-to-end solutions, along with an unwavering commitment to our customers’ success. The additions to HP’s portfolio strengthen our leadership position in the large-format printing industry by providing our customers with leading products and solutions that help them grow profits, meet new challenges and capture business opportunities.”

The company says that globally, the market for outdoor advertising is projected to grow by US$4.81 billion to reach US$29.86 billion by 2010, with Asia Pacific being a key driver of worldwide growth at a 10.18 per cent compound annual growth rate from 2007 to 2010.

HP plans to capture the market, and maintain its strong presence in the region, through continued product innovation, strengthening of customer and sales teams, and increased infrastructure investment. The company will set up an HP Scitex regional training centre in Hong Kong by early 2009, and will increase its inventory of related spare parts.

The company’s leadership claims in this segment of the market are founded on statistics from the IDC Asia/Pacific Quarterly large format printer tracker, which said HP held the number one position with 37 per cent market share in the A1 and above category in Asia Pacific and Japan for the second quarter, and that it has held the number one position for 22 consecutive quarters in the region.
