The latest from Heidelberg in pack delivery engineering will soon be installed in Australia with the fulfillment of the first orders for Heidelberg’s Stahlfolder Speedbander in leading printing houses in both Sydney and Melbourne.
Released by Heidelberg Post Press last year, the Speedbander range features high performance technology with the flexibility of being able to be used at the delivery of folding machines and saddle stitchers for the efficient and low-cost handling of counted and batched packs at the highest production speeds.Rudi Kolbach, Heidelberg product manager for postpress, says, "The Speedbander is a technically advanced solution. The leading edge design features of the unit really deliver the long-term answer to maximising throughput in the finishing phase."
The Speedbander’s features include innovative banding technology and fast cycling times across varied stream options encompassing a broad range of formats.It uses either paper or plastic, banding material that is sealed using ultrasonic technology. This allows the Speedbander to cycle at twice the speed of existing machines using heat sealing. The increased productivity of the Speedbander is essential when processing saddle stitched products delivered in low batch counts as this allows the saddle stitcher to run at its maximum rate.
"The range can accommodate the requirements of businesses of any size. It offers up to four streams processing 2,400 packs per hour. Another exclusive feature of the Speedbander is its ability to run a minimum pack thickness of 10 mm without loss of cycling speed," says Kolbach.
The unit is operated by a central control display that can be positioned within a 180-degree range by the operator for ease of use. This, along with self-explanatory icons for navigation, contributes to streamlined set-up times.
These features require less manpower and mean that with the Speedbander at the end of the delivery cycle, the saddle-stitcher and folder units can run at maximum capacity.
