Ferag Australia is making big inroads into the local prepress market with several installations of the Lüscher XPose! thermal CTP platesetter. Lüscher, the Swiss manufacturer of the XPose! system, recently celebrated the 500th installation of XPose! worldwide. For local supplier, Ferag Australia, it has been a similar success story with eight units sold since taking over the representation of Lüscher almost one year ago.
"The unique design of the Lüscher XPose! CTP system provides several benefits to users," explains Fritz Kistler, Ferag Australia prepress manager. "For instance, the combination of inner and outer drum technology means the plate stays firmly in place in the unit at all times while the exposure head images the plate from the closest possible distance. The result is unparalleled accuracy and a very high quality dot on the plate.
"The speed of the system is also among the best on the market as demonstrated in a recent world-record attempt in which 44 plates were exposed in one hour.
"However, the biggest advantages of the Lüscher XPose! system are reliability and simplicity. With only a few moving parts and multi-laser imaging technology, Lüscher XPose! delivers the highest uptime and therefore greater productivity. The operation is very simple and it is available in both manual or fully automated configurations."
Lüscher XPose! comes in various sizes ranging from two-up production all the way up to VLF production. Ferag Australia is placing great emphasis on the introduction of XPose! to the two-up/four-up market.
"Reliability and simplicity is of the highest importance to this segment as the breakdown of the platesetter may cause the entire value chain to come to a standstill," says Kistler. "It’s important therefore that quality does not stop with the platesetter. That’s why the same quality-driven philosophy also applies to the automatic Plate Handling System (PHS) from Lüscher."
Lüscher PHS is a stand-alone unit for feeding plates of different sizes from the various plate drawers to the XPose! platesetter. As a stand-alone unit, it is designed to ensure that should any unexpected malfunctions occur, the platesetter will continue to image high-quality plates.
