Currie adds the finishing touch
Already widely known for its expertise and machinery range with a particular focus on the A3 market, the Currie Group also supplies a comprehensive range of consumables, including offset inks, press chemistry and binding consumables says general manager, Bernie Robinson. Whilst the “meat and potatoes” business of supplying printers with their ink and chemical requirements is regular and predictable, even Currie management has been pleasantly surprised at the success of its foray into the business of manufacturing plastic filiament for the growing number of printers providing spiral binding services among their finishing repertoire.
Under licence to Canadian manufacturer, Plastikoil, Currie manufactures the plastic filiament at its Hawthorn, Vic facility, in a wide range of colours, pitches and formats for the local binding industry. According to Plastikoil project manager at Currie, Peter Dubourg, plastic spiral binding is usually more flexible than its wire counterpart. This flexibility enables a Plastikoil-bound book to be opened out fully and laid flat without damage or page loss.
Whilst Plastikoil filiament is designed for optimum performance in the range of Plastikoil hardware supplied by Currie Group, many customers are running the keenly priced material in the binding machinery of other manufacturers says Robinson.
