In addition to testing the efficiency of proofing equipment suppliers, this year's event also tested submissions from the user community, including agencies, designers, printers, prepress companies and publishers. Of 13 participating vendors, 28 per cent of user submissions came from CGS customers - more it says than any other vendor.
A panel of expert judges evaluated all proof entries based on color hue accuracy, gray balance, flesh tone reproduction, as well as rendering of shape, highlight and shadow detail, tonal transitions and vignettes. Vendors were required to work solely with an IT8.7/4 target and numeric data.
Of the total entered proofs submissions, CGS performed in all categories of the RoundUp events including hard and soft proofing, pantone spot colours, n-color ICC profiles, remote proofing and the test for JDF workflow. CGS also went beyond the regular GRACoL requirements for soft proofing and fully satisfied the tighter GRACoL requirements for hard proofing.
Trevor Haworth, President and CEO of CGS says, "This year's RoundUp really proves how versatile and widely used ORIS is. We entered and received exceedingly high scores in every evaluation, due not only to our strong solutions, but to our many loyal customers who participated this year."
CGS submitted ORIS Color Tuner version 5.2.2 for the Epson Stylus Pro 4800 and the HP Z3100, with the embedded spectrophotometer, and scored respectively high in hard copy proofing by the numbers as well as n-channel and spot colors. Soft Proofing results were also exceptional, visually and metrically, running ORIS Soft Proof with an Eizo CG221 monitor.
CGS' remote proofing results turned out excellent with proofs created by ORIS Color Tuner 5.2.2 at multiple locations. The first submission was completed in Chicago, Minneapolis and Germany, while the second was an end-user out of offices in Texas and Illinois. All submissions were created on the Epson x800 series, using CGS PearlPROOF Super White media - with the ORIS Certified Proof verification system.
A JDF file was supplied and out of seven vendors, CGS passed the JDF workflow test with a nine out of ten using ORIS Color Tuner 5.3 and Screen Trueflow 3.0.
