Australian Paper’s ENVI paper range, produced at the company’s Shoalhaven paper mill, has been accredited Greenhouse Friendly carbon neutral by the Australian Government Department of Climate Change. Australian Paper is the first paper products manufacturer in NSW to be awarded the certification by the government.

The accreditation was announced at the Shoalhaven facility yesterday by Joanna Gash, member for Gilmore and Paul Allen, general manager for marketing at PaperlinX Printing and Publication Papers.

Allen says that a purchase of an ENVI paper will be accompanied with a corresponding number informing the customer the exactly how many tonnes of CO2 have been accounted for and offset.

He says, “This innovation provides business with a genuine and simple means to reducing their scope three carbon emissions. This provides a valuable solution for organisations, including government who are leading the adoption and practice of sustainability, resulting in improved bottom line reporting.”

Allen continues, “There is a lot of green wash and falsified claims out there but with the ENVI range a business can report how much CO2 it is saving and its important for people to have figures to quantify. Around 1.7 tonnes of CO2 can be saved per year per employee if a business adopts the ENVI range.”

To achieve the accreditation, Australian Paper used ISO methodology to determine the direct and direct carbon emissions generated throughout the life-cycle of each grade of ENVI paper. All emissions, scope one, two and three, were then measured, verified, reduced and offset to the accreditation standards.

Australian Paper has produced more than 33,000 tonnes of ENVI carbon neutral paper since launching the grade in 2008. The range is also certified by the Forest Stewardship Council’s chain of custody certification, which guarantees that all fibre inputs, either virgin or recycled, come from sustainably managed sources.
