Roland DG has announced the arrival of its new UV hybrid contour Print and Cut solution – the VersaUV LEC-300, which will be rolled out in Asia as well as Australia and New Zealand.
According to Roland the release of the LEC-300 heralds the new generation of large format print and cut solutions. It and builds on Roland DG’s solid history and industry leading experience with Print and Cut technology, the company has sold some 71,000 Print and Cut hybrid printer solutions over the last 13 years.
The LEC-300 is a 760mm wide roll to roll printer using the latest in LED UV curing technology. This new LED technology offers many benefits over traditional UV lamp based systems. The LED lamps offer a much safer, cooler solution with a head life expectancy, substantially longer than older technologies, resulting in both easy maintenance and reduced operating costs. Rpoland claims the printing resolution is stunning, with the printer able to achieve photographic results at up to 1440x1440 dpi with variable dot technology.
The new ultra flexible ink set offers exclusive characteristics for a solution of this size and form factor. The LEC-300 complements the usual CMYK ink set, with white and a spot clear. The high density white can be printed in a single pass with colour, either under or on top of the CMYK image. The spot gloss can be printed anywhere on the image to emphasise or enhance a specific location, or be printed over the entire job to provide additional protection and effect. The gloss also levels out the printed surface so the image can be viewed consistently at any angle and can be ‘built up’ for a raised 3D effect to create dramatic effects on a multitude of substrates.
Besides printing onto the traditional PVC and paper medias, the LEC can print onto fabric, leather, membrane, metallic and many other flexible substrates. This makes it an ideal solution for anything from signage, enhancing high value products, labelling, product wraps to the proofing market, especially with the spot clear.

Complementing the LEC-300’s printing capabilities, Roland DG is has also released a major update of VersaWorks 3.0 Server Edition rip. VersaWorks 3.0 is an advanced rip using the latest 16bit Adobe Colour Engine to provide smooth graduations as well as accurate and vibrant colours. VersaWorks 3.0 has variable data support for both text and graphic There are a wide range of production and automation capabilities within VersaWorks 3.0, from automated hot folders to its ability to be integrated into a JDF workflow. Like all previous VersaWorks upgrades, this new version 3.0 Server edition is available free of charge to all existing VersaWorks users.
