Indonesion printer PT Gramedia Printing Group has invested in two new eight-colour KBA Rapida 106 perfectors – both with drivetronic SPC plate cylinder direct drives. The Jakarta-based company says the purchase is expected to improve its market position.

The two eight-colour perfectors are to be used in the company‘s Cikarang facility for printing magazines and for high-quality book printing. PT Gramedia expects particularly high growth rates in the second market segment.

According to KBA, the Cikarang printing centre was opened in 2005, and its production surface area has meanwhile been increased to 12,000sqm. With total investments of 10m euro in 2008 alone, it has further increased its significance within the PT Gramedia Printing Group.

Despite the international financial crisis, which is also affecting Indonesian printing companies, PT Gramedia Printing Group says it intends to continue its investment programmes as planned.

Hari Wardjono, director of Gramediab says he intends to consistently continue the successful growth of the company in 2009.

He says, "As contractually agreed, the two machines were delivered, installed and put into operation by KBA. We are currently printing about 300 magazine titles, and together with book production have reached seven million copies a month. The new Rapida 106 presses will help us to increase these figures substantially in future."
