GMG expands in Australia, Asia
GMG, Germany-based specialist in high-end colour management and proofing solutions, has appointed Ivan Khoo as sales and marketing manager for the south east and western operations of GMG Asia, including Australia. Khoo has more than five years experience in the graphic arts industry and his primary responsibilities will be to establish and supervise GMG sales channels and manage several key customer accounts, supporting the company’s resellers.
“Since the establishment of our office ten months ago, GMG’s south east asia business has been growing rapidly”, says Henry Ng, GMG Asia director of Business Development. “Our distributors are performing very well and we are setting up installations in many major sites across the region.
“With DRUPA completed, and armed with an entirely new portfolio of GMG products, we believe that it is an opportune time to increase our investment in the region – to ramp up our momentum and broaden the reach of GMG Asia.
“We are very pleased to have Ivan on board. With his help, our GMG Southeast Asia operations should be more efficient. We can focus more on delivering marketing and technical support to our channels and key customers. In turn, we expect our efforts will translate into faster – and even more numerous – success stories”, says Ng.
In a related move, Yan Wei Phin will assume expanded responsibilities as regional technical services manager for GMG Asia. He will oversee all technical communications between GMG and the company’s GMG partners in Asia, as well as supervising all training and support issues throughout Asia.
Software company, GMG was founded in 1984 and is located in Tuebingen, near Stuttgart. The company has a distribution network throughout Europe and local presence in the United States and Asia. GMG offers specialised in high-end colour management for the entire graphic arts industry.
To date, more than 4000 GMG systems have been sold across the industry spectrum from ad agencies, prepress houses and offset printers to international gravure printing plants. According to GMG, its ColorProof system has become the de-facto standard of Europe’s large gravure printing industry.
GMG’s ColorProof colour management software system provides an accurate way of calibrating digital inkjet proofing engines to produce digital contract colour proofs, precisely matched to the printing press.
The system comprises the GMG Color Engine, profile editor/creator and RIP, and output modules for various printing devices. At its core is the 4-D color-transformation engine that assures the highest possible contract proof quality on a variety of output devices.
To calibrate the system, all standard colour targets can be automatically measured, using a spectrophotometer. Device-independent colour profiles can be archived, making the system together with some very sophisticated linearisation tools, highly suitable for remote-proofing applications too.
GMG ColorProof supports all standard spot colour systems with up to 64 individual colour channels, and is compatible with standard ICC profiles, which can be combined with GMG profiles.
ColorProof system features a variety of workflow capabilities, and handles a wide range of file formats, including TIFF-IT, DCS, Postscript, and PDF (up to level 1.4). The optional GMG FileOut module allows the conversion of one CMYK colour space to another, while keeping the integrity of the black channel. Offset data, for instance, can be automatically converted to gravure data.
Apart from GMG ColorProof, GMG offers other specific proofing and colour management solutions, such as its DotProof option, to generate contract quality halftone proofs, using the original bitmap data.
Specifically tailored to the needs of the packaging industry is GMG FlexoProof, which supports specific flexo file formats and includes a complete Pantone spot colour library, along with other functions.
GMG CamFlow is the all-encompassing workflow solution for optimisation and separation of RGB data, imported, for example, from digital cameras.
Meanwhile, GMG InkOptimizer automatically reduces chromatic colours, thus achieving drastic ink and therefore cost savings, along with better print stability on press.
