Successfully responding to changes from customers often leads to success in other aspects of business as well. Spicers Paper found this out when it established a department dedicated to digital print solutions, and almost immediately came up with a world class paper

Spicers Paper established its digital division in 2008. Jeff Strom, manager of Spicers Paper New Zealand’s new digital division, says the company founded the new department in response to growing customer demand for top quality digital print solutions.

He says, “We really see this is where our future growth is heading, with more and more customers being drawn to the advantages of shorter, more flexible print runs, personalised print options and so on.”

One of the new division’s first decisions involved bringing what it saw as one of the world’s leading uncoated colour laser papers to New Zealand: Color Copy. Strom reckons that the arrival of Color Copy paper to these shores, which marks its 20th birthday this year, should be cause for celebration. He says, “Color Copy has impressed printers, and their customers, with outstanding results in Europe for 20 years, and now Spicers Paper has made it available to the New Zealand market.”

Strom says that Color Copy, as the first-ever paper purpose-designed for colour laser printing, makes for a solid solution to the New Zealand digital print production marketplace. He says, “Color Copy is an ideal fit with Spicer Paper’s existing digital range and it’s a real coup for us to be able to offer New Zealand customers the top digital grade in the world. While Spicers Paper has stocked this fantastic product globally for some time, this is the first chance we’ve had to bring it to New Zealand. Naturally we jumped at the chance.”

Strom comments that Color Copy’s product benefits include super-sharp print results and brilliant colour reproduction, precise smoothness and flatness, controlled conductivity and high light-fastness.

He says, “It offers excellent runnability on high-output devices and generates minimum dust, meaning equipment requires less frequent servicing. Because it’s made from high-quality, non-abrasive raw materials, Color Copy has been shown to reduce wear and tear on copiers and printers. It has an excellent track record on high-performance printers and is recommended by a number of leading equipment manufacturers for daily use.”

Available in A4, A3 and SRA3 formats and in 10 different weights, ranging from 90gsm to 350gsm, Color Copy also comes with a laser and colour copier performance guarantee. Strom adds, “The quality of its results together with its economical pricing mean that Color Copy represents excellent value for money, making it ideal for everyday applications ranging from presentations, direct mail, business cards and envelopes to brochures, flyers, books and colour proofs.”

FSC-certified colour laser paper
Colour Copy paper has evolved since being developed in 1986 by Mondi for the digital colour copier: Canon CLC1, and subsequently launched onto the market in 1989. In the ensuing two decades, new weights and finishes have appeared to keep up with changing technology and print trends.

In 2005 Color Copy became the first colour laser paper in the world to achieve certification by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the international certification scheme for the promotion of responsible forest management practices.
Still manufactured in Austria by Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper, part of the Mondi Group, Color Copy is part of the Mondi green range of papers, which, Mondi says, includes FSC certified, elemental chlorine free and recycled paper products. Color Copy carries the FSC Mixed Sources label, meaning it is made from wood from FSC-certified well-managed forests and other FSC-approved sources.

Spicers Paper received its FSC chain-of-custody certification in 2005, allowing the company to distribute FSC-certified products while still preserving the integrity of the FSC-approved supply chain. That means customers specifying Color Copy through Spicers and using an FSC-certified printer can use the FSC Mixed Sources label on their own printed materials.

Spicers Paper expects Color Copy, with its environmental credentials and high rated performance, to take on flagship brand status for the company. Strom concludes, “We’re really delighted to be able to offer a product of the calibre of Color Copy to our customers wanting to explore those possibilities. Anyone can go to
www.spicerspaper.co.nz to find out more about Color Copy.”
