Few company’s products are as visible everyday as those of DIC. Its core business is the manufacture and sale of printing inks and coatings, applied to form the printed word and to decorate and protect packaging
DIC has recently formed a new commercial division, led by well known industry identity Jason Kent. The new commercial division covers the full consumable range of inks, coatings, chemistry and blankets for the sheetfed market. Kent says, “DIC has access to an extensive range of products from Asia, Europe and North America that are particularly appropriate to Australia. For instance the new Diamond range of process inks is proving very successful and recently featured prominently in many of the latest Gold PICA awards.”In addition DIC has recently become the exclusive agent for Conti Air blankets. Conti Air is a global brand with an extensive range of products across sheetfed and web offset. DIC is also selling a full range of press chemicals from Rycoline, which is a fully owned DIC company and is a market leader in fountain solution technology
Kent says, “DIC offers a range of bulk delivery systems to meet our customers’ needs. DIC has successfully been working with Yamada pumps and have many pressroom installations under our belt.”
DIC has a long history, with unrivalled credentials. The main graphics products part of the company comes originally from the English company Coates Brothers, formed in the UK in 1877. Coates New Zealand was founded in 1948, and Coates Australia in 1949, and the names were changed from Coates to DIC Graphics in 2004.
In Australasia DIC already owned two other companies – DIC Colortron, a sheetfed – specific ink company started in 1984 (and purchased by DIC in 1999), and DIC International – a trading company that operated in NZ and Australia and primarily sells DIC and non- DIC products into the
coatings industry.
On January 1 2007 all DIC subsidiaries in Australasia were brought together as DIC Australia Pty Limited and DIC New Zealand Limited, operating as one company with headquarters in Sydney.
The headquarters and main factory of DIC Australia / New Zealand is situated in Sydney. Printing ink and other surface coatings for the full range of printing and packaging applications are supplied through a network of service factories in Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
