Converta prepares for a Tornado

Converta Machinery says the Tornado 106CE Diecutter from Brausse is sure to upturn the known truths of the autoplaten print finishing arena

ACCORDING to Converta the Brausse 1050 Series die cutters and hot foil stamping machines have been Australia’s top selling range of autoplatens for the past few years, also enjoying significant success in overseas markets.

With the popularity of the Brausse 1050SE Series, some might think Brausse would be content to simply retain its current place in the market with the existing equipment range, however the company says the Tornado 106CE proves this line of thinking very wrong.

Converta says that traditionally, the European autoplaten suppliers (including those rebranding and marking-up Taiwanese equipment or manufacturing in Asia) have split their Autoplatens into two distinct ranges; the basic economy range, and the all whistles and bells prestige range. The long time lament and wish of the Australian printer packaging house has been for the inclusion of high end, time and labour saving features of the prestige level machine to be made available at the economy end of the market. The company reckons that with Australia being a country of relatively small and widely dispersed population the $1 million plus investment for the prestige diecutting technologies is out of reach for all but a few.

Mark Whitechurch, director at Converta says, “The Brausse 106CE Tornado has features never before seen anywhere in the world on a single machine, for such a competitive price. Not only is the Tornado a cost effective solution, it’s list of features overshadows those of the economy series machines from its European competitors. It is built and designed from the ground up for reliability and with an impressive maximum speed of 9,000 sheets per hour, it’s the perfect blend of race and workhorses.”

Brand new features on the Tornado include a larger sheet size at 1060mm x 750mm; a new feeder design with 55mm sucker height adjustment for coping with B-Flute and steady feeding of stock weights down to 80gsm; an inclined feeding table with brush/roller assembly position, with adjustment done via one wheel, shortening set-up times; four independent front lays with motorised adjustment; a new gearbox design for smooth movement of the die cutting platen at high speeds; what the company says is incredible bed flatness coming from base board made of 24mm thick synthetic fibre, plus 4mm special hardened steel cutting plate with four way micro adjust results in quick and easy make ready; a new design gripper bars that stop and start gently, allowing for much smaller nicks; and a mobile touch screen operation panel gives total control of the machine from job settings to fault diagnostics.

In addition the upper, middle and lower stripping drawers with centre line notches make for fast set up, the upper stripping section can be raised 320mm to facilitate operator access; and a rocking motion of the stripping section creates greatly increased stripping force for what Whitechurch says is 100 per cent effective stripping on difficult jobs.”

Whitechurch says, “The feature list contains items that certainly will not be options to any discerning buyer of die cutting machinery, which is why on the Brausse 106CE they all come as standard equipment. As the Australian print customers move towards ordering stock at lower volumes, in a greater frequency, it has never been more vital to minimise those set-up times. The Brausse 1mm plate system allows the creasing matrix to be stowed in position with the cutting forme and make ready sheet, true short set-up times are now possible for repeat jobs.”

Operator friendliness is also a big factor in selecting die cutting machinery; according to Whitechurch who says, “Just ask any burly guy who has had to squeeze beneath the stripping section in an Autoplaten. The stripping section of the Tornado has been designed from the ground up with the operator in mind.

“The Three Drawer stripping system allows for the easy mounting of the male and female stripping boards as well and the bottom pins, to take place outside of the machine. The high lift of the top stripping frame makes for easy and fast clean-out of jam ups. Additionally, the operator will be pleased to find the adjustment of the front lays is now motorised for precise and easy adjustment.”

In conjunction with the launch of the Brausse 106CE Tornado, Converta Machinery remains committed to the Brausse foil stamping and folder / gluer range of equipment, which it says has fast become the industry standard. Whitechurch says, “In these uncertain economic times it becomes necessary to search out the very best value for money proposition on the market. In the face of stiff competition from other machines in the marketplace the Brausse range stands alone as pack leader and will leave you unable to find a reason to justify looking to Europe or anywhere else for your equipment.”
